Louis Dobermann, a tax collector, night watchman, and dogcatcher from
Apolda, Germany, created the original draft for the Doberman Pinscher;
however, it was Otto Goeller who perfected today’s standards after his
mentor’s death in 1894. Their original intent was to fearlessly protect Louis
on his three dangerous jobs while remaining friendly in general demeanor.
Dobermans were created from the Rottweiler, German Pinscher, Manchester
Terrier, and Greyhound; resulting in a magnificent, lean, working dog
machine. They were specifically built for loyalty, speed, power, intelligence,
and nimbleness set in a calmer demeanor. Dobies were first colored black and
tan to surprise night intruders, but now also come in red, blue, and fawn and
tans as well, or in all white. (Please read our White Doberman Disclaimer).

Dobermans should also have vaccines bi-annually because they are more
susceptible to contagious diseases like Parvo and a bleeding disorder known
as von Willebrand’s. It is also very important that large breed dogs are given
the proper food and supplements to ensure that they develop correctly and
avoid serious conditions caused by malnutrition, such as Rickets.
Doberman Pinschers need room to run with an average sized yard, however
apartment life will suit them fine if they are regularly exercised. They are not
suited for colder weather, and need steady human companionship. They also
are one of the only protection breeds that get along with small children and
other small pets remarkably well. While they are younger, they are goofy
and clumsy, and almost need to be protected from injuring themselves. All in
all, Dobermans are sweet, affectionate, devoted, protective, and all around
great companions. Remember that you get out of a pet what you put into it.

In World War I, the starvation in Germany drove this new breed nearly to extinction, with most owners being
forced to put their dogs down. Military popularity for them grew when U.S. infantry soldiers noticed the breed’s
fearless, loyal, enduring, strong, protective, and affectionate characteristics and decided to bring some here to the
States. In World War II, they loyally served alongside soldiers as War Dogs for the U.S. Marines, and were
lovingly called “Devil Dogs”. These same devoted Dobermans are now buried in the U.S. Marine Corps War Dog
Cemetery located on the island of Guam.

Today, Dobies are loving, sweet, and very gentle, while still possessing the
ability to guard and fearlessly protect without being vicious; making them
the perfect family dog. They are incredibly smart and are used in a large
variety of work areas; such as police, guard, nursing home, help for
handicapped, tracking, military, search and rescue, therapy, personal
protection, and competition in confirmation, obedience, agility, and
schutzhund (sport protection). Most people who’ve lived with them will tell
you they were the best dog they’d ever had, and we invite you to research
and ask your friends with experience on this breed their personal opinions.
ALL five colors of Dobermans are equally very healthy animals in general.
Unfortunately, like all purebreds, they are genetically prone to developing
certain disorders; hip dysplasia, congenital heart disorder, obesity and
hypothyroidism are a few.
The right large breed can be as sweet and loving as a toy Poodle if they are raised that way. Dobermans truly
make an outstanding addition to any type of family in most environments, and are a prime example of “Man’s Best
Friend”.
The original Doberman standard is that they are a MEDIUM sized dog. They are supposed to square and compact,
as well as muscular and powerful to allow for great speed and endurance. The Doberman standard also requires
that they are of good temperament, elegant, proud, noble, energetic, watchful, determined, alert, fearless, loyal
and obedient. Our dogs do contain the Z gene, but are otherwise of the highest quality and are healthy and
sound. Our dogs exact AKC pedigrees are located below their pictures. We will not be breeding often, and will
concentrate solely on FAMILY PETS OF HIGH QUALITY. They will be healthy, the correct size, and extremely
gentle in temperament--as we have many teacup animals and a small child in our home. We will take the
placement of our beautiful babies very seriously--and honor our Mini Meez Lifetime Guarantee.
ALL colors of Dobies can have some type of hair loss under stress or seasonally, as Folicular Disorder is extremely
common, and has been proven to not only found in the recessive genes of the blue, fawn, or whites--Color
Dilution Alopecia (CDA) is more common in the recessive traits.
